About The Role
The Folklore is searching for a Chief of Staff to collaborate with the CEO on strategic and operational activities that drive the company forward. This role is a key part of the leadership team and will be exposed to all aspects of The Folklore business. The Chief of Staff will help build and oversee detailed strategies and KPIs inline with our objectives, implement tech and organizational solutions to streamline business operations, develop and oversee HR strategy and team well being, and collaborate with our external accounting firm to ensure budgets, reports, and payments are properly completed. They will have a significant impact on the company's cross functional operations, global strategy, and external business partnerships. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground level and work closely with our CEO to develop a barrier breaking world-class company that is revolutionizing wholesale distribution for diverse and emerging market suppliers.
Responsibilities
Strategic Development
- Collaborate with CEO to set and manage all of the company’s topline objectives, goals, and KPIs
- Develop operational and cross functional strategies to achieve key business objectives
- Source and oversee strategic partnerships that can lead to sales growth, increase in operations, and business dev milestones (government, financial institutions, manufacturers)
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering team on developing product roadmap
- Lead and collaborate with Product and Engineering to source and implement new technology to integrate with our product
- Scope business opportunities (financial model, market sizing, industry analysis, market research) and manage the development of new ventures
- Conceptualize and execute on implementing supply chain and logistics solutions centered around emerging markets
- Create reports on sales business status, risks, and revenue attainment
Operations
- Source and implement new software to manage cross functional workflow
- Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOP) across departments
- Monitor major team projects to ensure timelines are met and objectives are hit
- Monitor KPI sheet and oversee weekly updates by the team for each department
- Build high-quality presentations and agendas for company meetings, industry conferences and others external collaborations and assign action items
Team Management
- Develop and oversee HR strategy and operations
- Onboarding new hires and getting them acclimated to operating systems
- Off boarding existing team members and facilitating transition
- Create and update employee handbook, guides and materials
- Organize team bonding activities and benefits
- Receive time off requests from team and manage approvals
Finance
- Collaborate with CEO to develop budgets and financial models
- Review monthly financial reports prepared by external accountants
- Reconcile monthly budget and actuals based on reports
- Approve invoices prepared by accountants for CEO to review and approve
- Monitor accounting team in tax filing preparation and submission
- Source and apply for grant and other alternative funding opportunities
Who You Are
- You have Business Operations and Business Strategy experience with a proven track record of developing scalable strategies and operating systems from scratch
- Advanced knowledge of merchandising and wholesale processes; in particular as it relates to apparel, accessories, beauty, and homeware buying
- Great communication skills, continuous learning, and bias for action
- Great team player with passion for encouraging cross-functional collaboration and alignment
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret data to make informed recommendations and drive process optimization
- You have experience with building and scaling internal tools which drive efficient and effective business operations
- You are a creative problem-solver. You excel at identifying simple solutions to tough problems.
- You are relentlessly resourceful. When something needs to get done, you always find a way to make it happen. Even when the work is hard, you have the drive to power through it and execute with limited information and ambiguity.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, strategy or equivalent experience
- At least 5+ years of professional operations and strategy experience
- Data analysis skills (Google Spreadsheets, Airtable or similar platforms) for data visualization
- Project management skills and experience using project management tools (Asana, Jira, etc.)
- Experience with reading and understanding financial statements and developing budgets
- Demonstrated leadership potential and prior experience managing people
- Experience managing Objectives, Key Results (OKRs) and success in driving OKR adoption and outcomes company wide
Bonus to Have
- At least two years experience working at an early stage tech startup preferred
- Supply chain and product lifecycle management experience
- Experience using competitor B2B wholesale systems
