IAMISIGO Brings Paris Presentation to Lagos Fashion Week

In the Spring/Summer 2020 collection, IAMISIGO sets out to explore the ways sustainability and waste affect the African ecosystem. With that in mind, designer Bubu Agosi presented an earthy, soulful collection with fabrics sourced from various countries. Originally debuted at Paris Fashion week, the collection took on new meaning in Lagos, with the natural environment providing a complementary backdrop.

Barkcloth from Kampala, kikoi from Nairobi and recycled PVC from Lagos bring the collection to life with shades of red, orange and brown mimicking the West African landscape.

At the presentation, a group of models stood in rigid poses on rocks and dry leaves while dancer Sheila Chukwulozie (who also wore pieces from the new season) performed a routine.

Rough textured cloth and raw detailing give the garments a primal yet sensual feel, or what the designer describes as a "divine female aesthetic." Patchwork adds a subtle edge to otherwise conservative lengthy skirts, jackets, and suits. Simplified silhouettes, textured fabrics, frayed hemlines, and fringe details added an extra layer of surprise. In one specific look, a PVC tunic is worn over a mini skirt and tube top, a departure from the otherwise neutral looks in the collection.

This year's show marked a new chapter for the label, with more refined, technical pieces on display.
