Sounds of the Month November ’21: Our Favorite Songs of the Year
It’s almost that time of the year, when the Spotify Wrapped stats and Apple Music’s Replay playlists reveal the the artists and songs that soundtracked our 2021. Here at The Folklore, we’re getting ahead of what the algorithm has in store for us and sharing our playlist of the songs we had on repeat this year with our November installment of Sounds of the Month.
We’ve been vocal about our love of tunes from the Motherland, from Afrobeats to Amapiano. That’s why we can’t get enough of “Essence” from Made In Lagos by Wizkid, despite being released in 2020. This year saw a release of the deluxe version, with new tracks such as “Mood” quickly becoming a favorite. Nigerian teenager Ayra Starr came out strong and with plenty of attitude with her debut album 19 & Dangerous, featuring earworm tunes “Fashion Killer” and “Bloody Samaritan”. Tiwa Savage’s collaboration with Brandy, “Somebody’s Son”, also made the cut, thanks to its infectious beat and catchy lyrics that seem ready-made for social media captions.
From the summer jams we’re still listening to well into the fall to the latest releases that will be fueling our holiday season, these are the songs of the year according to Team Folklore.
