The Look: What to Wear to Afrochella in Ghana this December

It’s almost time for one of the most highly anticipated Afro music festivals of the year, Afrochella. In just a few days, people from far and wide will travel to Ghana to celebrate Africa’s diverse culture through music, art, and cuisine from December 24 until January 2. This year’s Afrochella festival features headliners such as Wizkid, Ayra Starr, StoneBwoy, Gyakie and more. For an event this big, the right outfit is a must.

The perfect festival outfit relies on three primary elements: comfort, practicality, and style. You should be able to dance and enjoy the festivities without having to compromise on fashion. The relationship between music and fashion runs deep as it allows the artist to express themselves and distinguish their own aesthetic from others. Just as music does, fashion has the power to send a message, which can create an entire community surrounding the musician and their fans and supporters. African luxury brands have been a part of this movement for sometime now. Many artists, such as Afrochella headliner Wizkid, are adamant about showing their support for African fashion designers and Black-owned brands, and so can you.

The Printed Set

A two-piece set is always an easy go-to for any occasion and the Andrea Iyamah Akacia Tunic and Akacia Pants set is a fun and elevated choice. The sleekly tailored silhouette gives the set a sophisticated and smart look and the vibrant pattern adds an exciting vibrance to the outfit. Finish the look with a pair of striking earrings such as the Adisa Drop earrings by KHIRY.

The Modern Jumpsuit

You can never go wrong with a jumpsuit because it takes all of the hard work out of putting together an outfit. The burgundy Nkululeko Jumpsuit from South African brand ALC is a fresh twist on the classic utility style. Finished with silver snaps down the front and oversized front pockets that add to the practicality, you can wear alone during the day and layer with a turtleneck sweater underneath for when the night chill sets in.

The Relaxed Co-Ords

An innovative and fresh take on a classic suit, GOOD GOOD GOOD’s Nature’s Valley Short Set is a great way to mix casualty and sophistication. Created from mid-weight kikoi cotton fabric with an elasticated waistband, the co-ordinating set is designed to keep you comfortable and is perfect for all-day wear.  Worn buttoned or unbuttoned, this look can be easily styled with box-fresh sneakers and a bucket hat from Simon and Mary to create an exciting streetwear feel.

The Sleek Kaftan

For a look that is effortless and breezy, look no further than the Two Way Sheer Kaftan from Nigerian label Orange Culture. Crafted from smooth chiffon silk that is breathable, the longline flowing kaftan creates a fluid effect when paired with the matching pants. With a back cut-out detail and vibrant abstract pattern, this set ensures that you won’t get lost in even the most festive of crowds.

The Bold Trousers

These hand-embroidered Tribal Pants from Nigerian menswear brand BLOKE will add a pop of color to any look. The statement piece is made with hand-dyed cotton fabric and is adorned with tribal motifs. They can be worn casually and dressed up for a smarter look. The lightweight fabric makes it easy to move and dance, just what you need at a lively festival.
