Fruché Debuts SS20 Collection at Lagos Fashion Week

Fruché’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection is equal parts baroque and eclectic, marking a new chapter for the design house. 

A striking white eyelet dress featured a sequin and fur pocketsqaaure, while a sheer black dress employed the same fur to look like fire wrapping around the model’s torso.  Some of the collection’s best pieces were elevated basics presented in romantic shades of plum, Indian red and carmine. 

For those who think the choice to condense several ideas into one collection seems aimless, Frank Aghuno’s control over his vision was clear from the first look. Each piece had tiny detailing nodding to another, such as the skirt made up of three patterns and a similar dress. 

Aghuno used select looks to pay homage to his Bini heritage, best seen in the red beaded skirt fashioned to look like a lattice. In what seemed to like an acknowledgment of the continent’s colonial past, select pieces offered high, dramatic necklines and ballooned sleeves. 

For menswear, the label offered a blouse with orange feathers and lace shorts, a liberating, feminine touch. In contrast to other presentations, the collection also included slogan tees that articulated the aim of the collection. Phrases included “Freedom is my birthright”, “King” and “Igwe”, the Nigerian word for royal.
